I caught an a pre-dawn flight from Jakarta to Banjarmasin, Kalimantan. As the aircraft lifted through the early morning cloud I could see the sun coming up lighting Java's volcanoes and Northern coast beautifully. All too soon the aircraft began its decent towards Banjarmasin and to my amusement the condensation build-up in the cabin grew so high there were streams of water running along the luggage compartment and raining down on us. I looked across the isle to see the young man sheltering under the emergency procedure card as the cabin crew went along mopping up the water with handfuls of tissues and apologising.
The main reason I went to Kalimantan was to go to Tanjung Puting National Park and Camp Leaky's Orangutan Rehabilitation center. The park is only accessible by a boat through some beautiful rainforest. The park, insect life and all the primates were incredible and are really worth making this trip for. The sad side is the terrible burnt and deforested areas around. This small park really is a last refuge of Urangutans and many other animals.
